Send Groups explained

Is there a resource that explains the "send group" feature? Apologies if I've missed something.
Is it really as simple as...

• creating a group XYZ
• sending Campaign A to a defined list segment while choosing group XYZ
• sending Campaign B to that entire list (no segment) also choosing group XYZ
• Campaign B automatically goes to everyone excluded in Campaign A

Is that a use case?

In simple terms, if you put 2 campaigns in a sending group, and a number of email addresses are part of both campaigns, those emails will only receive a single campaign, not two. So this keeps track of which received the campaign from the group and if same email already received it, it will not anymore.
