Geolocation tracked based on what?

Hi,
May I know geolocation is tracked based on location of the person who opened email or the location of where their IP served hosted?

It's based on the IP address.

So for example if someone in SG opened the email, but their email server hosted in US. Geolocation will show US instead of SG?
Am I right?

That's correct, it will take the location of the ip address.
