Customer record data fields - "Company"?

When I view "Customers --> Customers" in the backend, I see a column labeled "Company". Yet when I go to add a new customer, the is no field to enter that value. Missing? How do I add this "Company" value to each new customer record?
Unfortunately you can't at the moment, easiest way to do it is create the customer and then from the backend under the "view customers" section you have the option to login as them, first icon on the right next to "date added", do that and then go to their "my account" section and there is a tab for "company" you can fill in the details there.

If you are using the self registration facility you can set in:

Backend > Settings > Customers > Registration

"Require Company info" to yes.
