Any way to speed up processing times when sending emails

We are connected to external delivery servers when sending out emails, but whichever server is being used, the time it takes to send even a small batch of a few dozen emails takes approximately 20 minutes. Is there any way to speed up this processing time?

I am able to connect delivery servers through API or smtp.
