Why is Mailwizz verifying emails during import?

I have email the verification disabled extension and have never enabled it. No custom extensions either. I imported a list and it listed a handful of emails as errors, one was 5.7.0 error, another was domain not found, etc.

It looks like it was doing some kind of verification. Why and how? I only wanted an import without any checks.

Double check if your email verification is disabled, because we don't make any check if you don't have a email verification extension enabled.

I found the root of the issue. It is checking imports against the blacklist (Email Blacklist in the backend).

I was importing to a new list, but it looks like bounced emails go to a global blacklist.

So no worries then. I would recommend making it clear on the import page that it is validating emails against the Email Blacklist.

I think that the message is clear because we show in the error the reason why emails has been added in the blacklist. Mailwizz is a big app and has a lot of options, so take the time to learn how it works and then you won't get stuck in cases like this.
