Subscribers on lists keep disappearing

I have a customer whose subscribers have inexplicably been deleted. This has happened twice now.
In the most recent incident she had just over 1100 subscribers one day and then only about 90 the next day:
- On Friday she sent three campaigns as part of a send group, her three lists had 3, 515 & 650 subscribers (she showed me a campaign stats export)
- When she logged in again on Tuesday everything was normal.
- Then she logged in again on Wednesday and most of her subscribers are gone, those three same lists now have 4, 55 & 29 subscribers

No other customers have reported issues

I am on version 2.5.7

I have no idea how to investigate this! Any ideas please!?
Assuming this is user error or intended behaviour, what features does MailWizz have that automatically delete subscribers?
 
I think I might have figured this out: she had imported her subscribers with a status of unconfirmed. The email campaign she had sent was to confirm them.

It seems the system deletes unconfirmed subscribers after 3 days. This makes sense for subscribing through a double opt-in form, but is rather unexpected for imported subscribers, customers don't expect their imported subscribers to vanish after 3 days!

However some unconfirmed subscribers have remained on her list which is strange
