Can you import into a specific segment?

We've been using separate lists for too long -- it's time to consolidate them into a single list with multiple segments (about nine lists, 500k subscribers total).

Is it possible to import subscribers into an existing list and bulk-flag them as belonging to a specific segment? This would make the task a lot easier.
 
Segments are nothing more than conditions on list custom fields.
So if you have segments that target any custom field, adding more subscribers that have that custom field matching the segment, will be added under the segment automatically.
